Pilgrim’s Lament

Read Aloud Text

As you travel north into the territory of Grelm you suddenly hear the sounds of Gnoll barking followed by a scream of agony.

Over the rise a group of Gnolls, led by a fearsome brute on the back of a squat four legged beast with smoke coming from its nostrils, attacks a small caravan of Gnolls where women and children hide behind wagon wheels and shattered tarps while their men defend them.

Tactics

The Gnolls immediately stop attacking their caravan prey at the site of adventurers and turn their attention to them. The Gnolls do not fight in a cohesive unit simply rushing down on the humans as fast as they can get there.

Development

The members of the caravan do nothing to help their new allies although do begin to clear up debris and reset their defensive perimeter.

Features of Area

The ground is covered with several dead gnolls and debris from the caravan but is otherwise an open plain.

Aftermath

After the fight with the raiders the group can approach the pilgrims and join with their caravan although lingering distrust remains.

Silver (18), a well kept curved short blade, a pair of nicely balanced throwing daggers (3), a well kept deer leather jerkin, and a set of ten gold earrings (50) that dangle from its ears pulling them heavily downward.

1 Gnoll Firestorm Rider

Silver (100), a black Firestorm Steed +1 whip (30) with silver inlaid handle and enchanted as to give off a flaming flash when he cracks the whip, a set of well made chainmail (75) with steel links, a pair of silver spurs (50) finely forged depicting a gnoll profile, and a thick glass bottle (6) filled with a sharp brown whiskey about half full.

The hooves (50) of the Firestorm beast can be boiled down by an experienced horseman and made into a Firebreath Potion (2d8+2), Close Blast 2.
